Pubs of note - The Wells Hampstead

written on 15 Nov 2009

I thought a little section about noteworthy pubs would be a good idea, for obvious reasons. Although drinking at home is all very well and there are decent bottled beers out there now, there's still nothing quite like a well kept pint poured in a proper pub. Sadly a difficult thing to find in London these days. However I went to The Wells in Hampstead recently for lunch.

It was only a quick early lunch so there was just time for the one pint, however it was a well kept Black Sheep Bitter which went down very tastily. Thoroughly recommended.

The food was absolutely superb, my haddock with poached egg atop mashed potato was sublime, ostensibly an easy dish to cook but very hard to get perfect. The fish was cooked just to flaking point, the poached egg had a purely runny yolk and the champ was well seasoned. My girlfriend's sea bass with brown shrimp sauce was also amazing.
